One year later, hope endures for communities ravaged by floods

The remnants of Tropical Storm Fred swept through Haywood County in August 2021, devastating the rural communities of Canton and Cruso.

Today’s spotlight story takes us to a corner of the mountains where United Methodist church groups and volunteers are answering the call to rebuild. See how the still-unfolding recovery has brought local congregations into closer relationship with their neighbors, in ways both practical and spiritual.

“This is the work we’re called to do,” one pastor told us. “Even though we may not have hoped for it, we have become the mission field for the church.”
