Ministry Grants

The Foundation is blessed to be in the ministry of making grants to churches and church related institutions who carrying out the mission of the United Methodist Church. We have two available funding pools for grants, The Reynolds Ministries Fund and The UMF Ministry Fund.

Reynolds Ministries Fund
Annual grant distributions for ministries that focus on making disciples for Jesus Christ

"If I can pay for things that nurture the church, I am blessed. Other people can do other things. This is what I do." - Royce Reynolds

What can your ministry do to make disciples for Jesus Christ? What can your church, your district, our conference do that will make disciples for Jesus Christ? The Reynolds Ministries Fund of the United Methodist Foundation seeks to support innovative, engaging, ambitious initiatives that will invite new believers into a relationship with Christ. The ministry grants reach far and wide. They are diverse in method and approach. What grant recipients have in common is the vision of helping the church to reach out in new ways and engage new people with the message of the Gospel. Grants have been made for Disciple Bible Study in prison, community Bible Studies, radio spots, movie nights for neighboring schools, expansion of church presence on the web and many more.

Can you measure success? Yes! Success is measured in expansion of God's reign and in the transformation of individual lives beginning with making a commitment to Jesus Christ. If you recieve a grant from the Reynolds Ministries Fund, we will ask you to report back to us as we believe accountability is central to our faith journey. Plus, we love to hear stories of success and to know how lives are being changed!

Your community is ready. The world is waiting. Dream, vision, plan and apply! We look forward to partnering with you in the most important call of making disciples for Christ.

2018 Grants Update: The office of the United Methodist Foundation of Western North Carolina was blessed to receive 71 Reynolds Ministry Fund Grant applications which total over $1.7 million in requested funds [deadline for applications was February 2nd]. These figures far surpass those of recent years. The United Methodist Foundation celebrates this as a sign of the abundance of wonderful and innovative ministry taking place around our Conference and beyond!

The faithfulness and generosity of Royce and Jane Reynolds of Greensboro NC has, for many years, supported disciple-making initiatives on an extraordinary level. Our gratitude for Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds cannot be overstated. We continue to be inspired by their commitment to evangelism.

Thanks are also due to the dedicated volunteers who serve on the Reynolds Ministries Grants Team. The team will review and prayerfully consider all applications. The team will meet on March 2nd to make the difficult award decisions regarding which applications best match the intentions and parameters of the Reynolds Ministry Fund. In 2018, the Reynolds Ministry Fund will be able to distribute approximately $400,000 in grant awards.

The United Methodist Foundation of Western North Carolina is privileged to be in partnership with so many disciple-making ministries.

UMF Ministry Fund
Annual grant distributions that support the mission and ministry of The Western North Carolina Conference

"Financially supporting the ministries of The Western North Carolina Conference is one way the Foundation lives-out its mission to build the church for generations to come." - Rev. David Snipes

The United Methodist Foundation's board of directors and staff is fortunate to have received undesignated bequests through the years that have enabled us to create the UMF Ministry Fund. This fund, an accumulation of various monies left to the Foundation, was created to financially support ministries that help The Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church to fulfil its mission.

Most recently, monies from this fund have been used to support a conference-wide stewardship initiative. In years past, annual distributions have been used to fund cabinet leadership programs and other various ministries that have helped us to "...follow Jesus, make disciples and transform the world."
